Last time in our series on cycle tours in central and northern Germany, we presented the Elbe Cycle Path, most of which followed the course of the river. The next featured cycle tour takes you into the varied low mountain range, past beautiful heaths and romantic towns with cycle-friendly accommodation.

Leine-Heide Cycle Path

The starting point of the over 400 km long Leine-Heide Cycle Path is Eichsfeld in Thuringia. It leads past Germany’s most beautiful moorland regions and finally ends in the metropolis of Hamburg. Cities worth seeing and a varied landscape await you along the route.

Make a stopover in the university town of Goettingen, for example, which attracts visitors with its student flair and charming half-timbered houses. For your overnight stay, we recommend the Holiday Inn Express Goettingen, where you can safely store your bike in a lockable bike room.
The crowning glory of your cycling holiday is Hamburg with a colourful mix of culture, shopping, sightseeing and relaxation. Get to know the northern German flair of the hanseatic city and visit, for example, the Landungsbrücken (St. Pauli piers), Hamburg City Hall or the UNESCO Speicherstadt (warehouse district). The ibis Styles Hamburg-Barmbek is a good place to stay overnight and can be reached quickly and easily by bike or train. There, you can expect not only a relaxing night and homemade burgers in our Mike’s Urban Pub, but also a covered bicycle stand.

Hotels: Holiday Inn Express Goettingen and ibis Styles Hamburg-Barmbek
Bike storage: lockable bike room in Goettingen or covered bike rack in Hamburg-Barmbek
